The next step would be to use the free web site listing service with those Search Engines that provide that service – ie: Google, Alta Vista, etc – as well as the main search engine database – http://dmoz.org. When you use the free listing service, your web site is cued up for visitation by a “search bot” from each search engine. The search bot looks at the keywords in the headers on each page and lists those in it’s database ready to match with someone’s search in that engine.
Depending on the search engine, this process can take up to 4 to 6 weeks for this to happen. For most people, this is satisfactory, however, some search engines also, for a fee, list your web site immediately. For example, Yahoo charges $49.00 per year for this service whereas Google has no express listing service.
Once this is done, you could look at using Google’s advertising programs, see http://www.google.ca/ads/index.html. As you can see this is very powerful technology that basically puts an ad for your services on participating websites that match your search keywords. For example, as one surfs the net and is looking for more information about orthodontic services, one would visit web sites about or close to this subject. Now, some of those web sites may display Google ads – if so, then your ad would be displayed as it closely matches one’s search interest.
