Please note – this is for setting up email accounts in Outlook Express when hosting on Digital Synergy web servers. Other email clients (and web hosts) may be similar in setup and configuration. Please click on the “visuals” for a larger, clearer image.
Step #1: Open Outlook Express, select “Tools”, then select “Accounts”. Once the “Internet Account” window opens, select “Add” and then select “Mail”
Step #2: Fill in your real name.
Step #3: Fill in the email address that you are creating.
Step #4: Fill in your domain’s POP and SMTP server addresses. Some ISPs require that you use their SMTP server address – contact your local ISP for more information.
Step #5: Enter your account’s user name and password – and please, use alpha-numerics of mixed case for your password. No crying to us if someone hacks your email account!
Step #6: Click on “Finish” on the “Congratulations” screen.
Step #7: Next configuration step is to select “Tools”, then select “Accounts”. Highlight your newly created email account and select “Properties”
Step #8: Under the “General” tab of the “Properties” screen, fill in the blanks accordingly
Step #9: Under the “Servers” tab of the “Properties” screen, check that the form fields are correct, AND MAKE SURE that under “Outgoing Mail Server”, the checkbox “My server requires authentication” is checked. This is a security measure to prevent your mailbox being used by spammers.
Step #10: Finally, under the “Connection” tab of the “Properties” screen, select how the computer should connect to the server, by Local Area Network (Broadband) or (God forbid!) by Dial Up.
That’s it, your email client should send and receive mail … If you are still having problems setting up your email, please contact us directly or fill out a support ticket.
